Keep in Touch with all that is Happening Concerning Missions at FEFC!

Fellowship Evangelical Free Church, Knoxville, TN

Therefore GO!

That’s the theme of our missions movement at Fellowship Church.

It’s a straight-up call to carry out the Great Commission. When we say, “Therefore go…” we’re speaking to everyone, for the whole church goes when just one of us carries the Gospel to another people in another land.

We believe that God has called us to three distinct areas of the world: Mexico, Central Europe, and Southeast Asia, and to a few focused ministries and relationships within those areas. We believe that before the Lord enlarges the scope of what we are doing, we need to be doing an excellent job with the work he has already given us. That’s our focus. It means saying “Yes” to a few opportunities, and “No” to a lot of others, many of them very worthy in and of themselves.*

We do not believe we are called to export American-style Christianity to the people in our three focus areas. Instead, we are to be servants to our friends in those places. Our desire, and our strategy, is always to come under indigenous Christian to serve and support them as they invite us. We want to learn enough about their culture so we share Christ in culture-honoring ways. This reflects what Paul wrote: “To the Jew I have become a Jew, to the Greek I have become like the Greek, so that by all means I might win them to Christ.” Our goal is always that we might decrease that he might increase.

What part do you play in Missions at FEFC?
Maybe you have little children at home. Perhaps you can’t take two weeks off work to head to the mission field for a short-term trip. Maybe you’re just not in a season of life that permits you physically to GO. How can you get involved in missions?

  • Pray: For some of us, the extent of our involvement might be prayer. Prayer is powerful, and of utmost importance. Missions can’t happen without it.
  • Serve: You might serve for a day or a week or for a project that helps forward our strategy. Whatever you can offer, it will help.
  • Give: You might be called to give so others can go. Short-term trips cost money, and missionaries need financial support. Your financial giving is vital to the success of both.
  • Go: Perhaps you are called actually to step onto foreign soil, whether for a week or for a lifetime. If you go, you take the whole church with you.

Therefore GO: We respond to the call of Christ as a whole church, and every member of the body can play a part in that response. Regardless of how big or how small your part is, every part is significant. A little bit from each of 3,000 people adds up to a lot, so please never doubt or diminish the part God is asking you to play.

* NOTE: We remain supportive of some missionaries who work outside of our three focus areas. That’s because our involvement with them began before we had focus areas. As long as those missionaries remain relationally and reciprocally connected to FEFC, we will continue our financial support of them as long as we have the financial resources to do so. You can learn more about them in one of the Sun, Feb 26 Electives, and here.
