Southeast Asia Ministry Team
The Southeast Asia Ministry Team we support is composed of college-aged men and women who have taken a year off from their studies, or a year off after they complete college, in order to reach out to the street children in the city of 4+ million where they live. These street children, who range in age from 4 years old to teens, make a living by working as street venders, selling books, postcards, and helping tourists shop.
The Ministry Team members form relationships with these kids, and then invite them to their homes for food, crafts, games, and Bible studies. When these children come to Christ, the Ministry Team members are then able to connect them with a local church body that can nurture them spiritually. The Ministry Team members still maintain their friendships with the kids even after they get connected to a church, as these friendships are real lifelines for the kids while they work on the streets.
The Ministry Team is also looking into ways they can multiply themselves by developing small business ventures they run part-time. They already have a small photography business where they make custom wedding photo albums. These business ventures could also eventually help provide safer jobs for some of the older street kids. The older street kids have it hard, as once they get past the ‘cute kid’ age, it is harder and harder for them to make a living.
